You are NOT using it correctly; acquiesce is a verb. Unfortunately I have no idea what you're trying to say by "and with acquiesce left Pretoria reluctant to discover what lies outside" so I can't give you an alternate word choice. I'd also note that you use both present and past tenses, which is something you might want to think about; also, a little punctuation might be in order.
