Why do so many people hate on field hockey?

Field hockey and I have a love/hate relationship. My coach favors me over other people on the jv team and even though i'm a sophomore i usually practice with the varsity and this happened last year too. The only real downside with me is that i'm sooooooo out of shape. Other than the fact that i'm sucking wind I think it's pretty fun. People always say field hockey is for wimps but let me tall ya, i have a s*** load of bruises and my fingers are always throbbing from being slammed between sticks. Also, i have a scar on my hand when some girl drove her stick into me last year and i also have been whacked in the head before. Then again, I think i'm of a violent nature and enjoy physical sports, I also do fencing. Its been called a stupid sport but we have the best record in my school. It just doesn't make sense as to why people hate it so much.
